The Dyldam Parramatta Eels have come away with a gritty 16-12 victory over the St George Illawarra Dragons at Pirtek Stadium on Saturday night, and Eels debutant Cody Nelson said his first experience in the Blue and Gold was one he will remember.
Nelson was called into the Blue and Gold side after a string of injuries to hookers Nathan Peats, Isaac De Gois and Kaysa Pritchard and he praised the Blue and Gold Army who were instrumental in getting the side home.
“My first time out here at Pirtek and it feels great to have that crowd out here, Nelson said after the game.
“An exceptional experience.”
“It was my first game for this year and it’s a bit different with a new club, new stadium but it was awesome because the crowd really got us home.” Nelson added.

Whilst the Eels built on their lead in the second half, the Dragons threw plenty at the Eels defensive line late in the game and the Blue and Gold repelled wave after wave of attack.
“They are a really good team and really well drilled and we have seen that throughout the year,” Nelson said.
“People are talking them up to be premiership contenders, and we are down near the bottom of the table, but we know we can beat the top teams and if we keep turning up like that every week we will trouble everyone.” He added.
“They have scored plenty of points in the last few weeks and we held strong and really dug in for each other and it was a really really good effort in the end.”
