Dyldam Parramatta Eels new recruit Clinton Gutherson has joined the Eels ahead of the 2015 season and the outside back is excited about the opportunity to join the Blue and Gold and move his career onwards and upwards.
Gutherson has had an injury-plagued start to his career, suffering season ending injuries to his foot and an ACL injury in his right knee over the last two years, however the 21 year old enters the 2016 preseason with plenty of energy and enthusiasm.
“It’s good, a bit of a refresh. I have been at Manly most of my career and it’s good to change it up and get over here to start the preseason, hopefully for a good year,” Gutherson said.
“The body is a bit worse for wear at the moment. We have had a few tough sessions but it’s gone well, it’s what you expect. It takes the body a couple of weeks to get back into and your flying from there.” He added.
Making the move from the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, Gutherson said the decision behind the move was the opportunity to work with somebody like Head Coach Brad Arthur and the opportunity to stamp his foot into the NRL.
“The move was to work with somebody like Brad. He has given me the opportunity to come over here and stamp my foot into the NRL, and I thought that was a good opportunity for me and my career to move onwards and upwards,” Gutherson said.
Gutherson re-unites with some of his former teammates from his New South Wales Under-20s representative team and his former Sea-Eagles side, however the twenty-one year old was excited to joining a backline that includes Michael Gordon and Semi Radradra.
“I have played with a few of these guys coming through the ranks, with some good games with them, and I’m looking forward to moving that on hopefully into the NRL team and hopefully build something into the next couple of years ahead,”
“It’s real exciting as well to work with Michael Gordon and Semi Radradra in the back line. Coming over here, I am just trying to learn as much as possible from a few of the older boys that have been there longer than me.”
“It’s real exciting, we have a real good team here for next year, and I am just looking forward to getting into it and really ripping in.”
