Dyldam Parramatta Eels new recruit Mitch Cornish has joined the Blue and Gold from the Canberra Raiders ahead of the 2016 season, and the 22 year old halfback and five-eighth was excited to pull on the new colours for the first time.

Joining his new teammates for Day One of the Eels 2016 pre-season, Cornish was not looking too far into the future, rather focusing on the present and settling into his new club.

“It feels good to put on the new colours. A good culture, a good club and I am really excited to be here,” Cornish said.

“It is always tough to start pre-season again and the first few days have been pretty tough getting all the testing done but I am settling in now and looking forward to the rest of the year.”

“It’s all about getting fit this pre-season, try and stay injury free and get to Christmas fit and healthy,” Cornish added.

Cornish made his NRL debut in 2014 and was named in the 2015 NSW Cup Team of the Year before signing with the Eels in late October, and the half was looking forward to working closely with his new teammates, in particular Kieran Foran and Corey Norman.

“We have recruited a few big names and I am looking forward to doing a bit with the new guys Kieran Foran and Mick Gordon along with Nathan Peats and Corey Norman here who I am excited to work with,” Cornish said.

“They are both two experienced halves and I will definitely take as much as I can from them.” Cornish added of the Eels Foran and Norman.

Despite the start of the 2016 season still a few months away, Cornish will be doing everything in his power to reach his goal of pulling on the Blue and Gold jersey at Pirtek Stadium in front of a loud and vocal Blue and Gold Army.

“I am looking forward to hopefully pulling on the Blue and Gold at Pirtek Stadium,” Cornish said.

“It is definitely a goal to pull on the Blue and Gold jersey so hopefully when 2016 comes around I can do that.”
