In 2014, the Eels had entered their Round 13 clash with the North Queensland Cowboys boasting a 7 game unbeaten winning streak at their home fortress, Pirtek Stadium, and the Blue and Gold were looking for revenge after suffering a 42-14 defeat to their rivals earlier in the season.

Playing in front of a vocal home grown, the Eels came out of the blocks firing as five-eighth Corey Norman cut through the Cowboys defensive early before forward Junior Paulo capitalized on the break to deliver the eels first four-pointer of the game.

The Eels doubled up in the very next set, after some skilful hands from Kenny Edwards and Jarryd Hayne set up the Fijian flyer, Semi Radradra to score for his 12th try of the season.

The Cowboys struggled to compete with the Eels early and it took an elusive Michael Morgan to slip through the defensive line to send prop James Tamou over for the Cowboys’ first points of the game.

However with the Eels in control of the match and setting up plenty of opportunities to score, only for their handling errors and execution stopping them from continuing to capitalise on their overlaps, they crossed again through Ken Sio to take a 14-6 lead into the half time sheds.

The break in play made for an unpredictable second half.

The Eels had crossed through a Hayne try after a Pauli Pauli offload, however the Cowboys had clawed their lead back through tries to Antonio Winterstein and Michael Morgan.

With a minute on the clock, and the Blue and Gold Army cheering on the Eels home, a short kick off and regather by Chris Sandow saw the Eels hang on for a 18-16 victory.
