Dyldam Parramatta Eels hooker Nathan Peats says he didn’t hesitate for a second in taking on the imposing Canberra Raiders on Saturday night after spending three weeks on the sideline with a dislocated elbow.

Peats left the field injured in the Blue and Gold’s Round 2 clash against the Cowboys, and pushed through 80 minutes of play in his first game back.

“I was tired at times but it wasn’t too bad a hit out for the first time back,” Peats said.

“I had to get involved early and then after that I didn’t think about [the injury] too much. It was good to get 80 minutes under my belt, and I was probably just glad we had more ball tonight.”

Peats made 41 tackles in the match up, moving into a running forward role when Isaac De Gois came onto the field, and says the Canberra forward pack is as imposing as they seem from afar.

“They’re a massive side, I can’t believe how big they are,” Peats said.

“But I thought we did well with the ball, and that made our job a lot easier in the middle as well. It’s obviously starting to click slowly (our attack), and it’s still early days but everyone’s starting to gel together.”

The Round 6 clash was the Eels’ last home game before they hit the road for back-to-back away games against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and North Queensland Cowboys, and Peats said the home ground atmosphere was electric.

“I love day games and I love day games at Parra, that’s even better,” Peats said.

“It was a good atmosphere and we had a really good win. We’ve got a pretty big block the next couple of weeks, and hopefully we can get a good couple of wins.”
