Description -

The Dyldam Parramatta Eels came away with a 22-10 victory over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval last night, and speaking after the game, Blue and Gold winger Clinton Gutherson put it down to the confidence in the Eels defence.

Returning to take on his old side, Gutherson was tested under the high ball throughout the night.

“I knew from the start, that they would test me early.” Gutherson said.

“I dropped the first one but I knew if I kept going at the ball it was going to turn my way and I was pretty positive and I was happy with how I went under them.”

After another strong defence display from the Eels, including six back-to-back sets on their line at the beginning of the second half, Gutherson praised the side’s mentality.

“We always have confidence in our defence. That’s how we build games,” Gutherson said.

“At the start we had a few drop balls and we we’re on our line but we were very confident with our defence.”

The Eels approach and mentality towards their defensive work was on show last night, with forward Beau Scott running 80m to chase down manly winger Tom Trbojevic to stop a certain four pointer.

“As I said to the others, you know what you are going to get from Beau. He is going to turn up no matter where they are on the field so he’s got to be happy with that, and we are happy with that,” Gutherson said.

“We are happy to have him. There were a few of us back there and that’s how we build our team, we just have to turn up where we can.”
